All Things Hair Extensions

This topic is easily at the top of our FAQ list! Brides often ask if they need extensions to create their dream look, where to purchase them or how to get them matched properly. We’re brining you ALL THE DEETS on todays post!

Do I need them?

Most brides spends months (sometimes years) growing out their hair leading up to the wedding day, but that’s a task that’s easier said than done! Thank goodness for the quick fix of hair extensions! When choosing on whether or not you want hair extensions, think about your vision for your wedding day hair. If you’re wanting a beautiful wispy textured updo and your hair is on the thinner side, extensions will only enhance your look! Same goes for half up half down and full down hairstyles. As an artist, its always nice to have extra hair to play with and add on as needed. Of course, we do have tricks up our sleeve to make thin hair look voluminous, but the added hair is nice! If you’re someone who has lots of volume and wanting more length, you may want to consider extensions for a half up/half down or fully down hairstyle. If you plan on doing an updo, no need for the extensions! Short answer…I will never say no to some extra hair as an artist! Which brings me to my next topic…

Which Brand do I get?

This question is a loaded one and many artists will probably have different preferences. If you’re a bride on a budget or short on time, Sally’s Beauty Supply has great clip-in options! I do find their extensions a bit limited when it comes to color variety, but most people find what they’re looking for! NOTE: Pleaseeeee do not get synthetic extensions. Synthetic hair is definitely on the cheaper side but unable to be styled with heat. I have had many brides in the past bring synthetic extensions to their trial and unfortunately were unable to be curled without the hair sticking to the hot tools. Not fun. If you’re looking for great quality but not necessarily budget friendly, Bellami hair is my #1 recommendation! Their hair extensions are 100% real and the color variety is incredible! This option is great if you plan to wear them beyond your wedding day and want a good quality product that will last! Of course there is always the option to visit your stylists and get extensions put in. I’ve personally used hand-tied in the past, and they were amazing! If taken care of properly, you can get up to two years use out of them! Your stylists will be able to recommend the length, color and technique that’s best for your hair.

So many options…

The options out there can sometimes be overwhelming. Once you’ve chosen the brand, you’re probably wondering which type might be best for your hairstyle. If you’re chosen to purchase them on your own and not get them put in by your stylist, I’ve created a cheat sheet below to help you out!

Color Matching

If time permits, we recommend getting your extensions color matched before your trial run. The best way to do this is to schedule a visit with your stylist! If your hair is uncolored and easy to match, chances are you’ll be able to find exactly what you need in store or online and skip this step!

We hope these tips will help you out as you prepare for your big day! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@sheisartbeauty.com
