HAIR PREP from start to finish!
A comprehensive guide to your wedding day hair prep!
How to Prep Your Hair for the Wedding Day: A Comprehensive Guide
Proper preparation is key to achieving the bridal look of your dreams, so we’ve put together this guide to help you get your hair wedding-ready!
1. Start Early: Consult with Your Stylist
One of the first steps in preparing your hair is booking a consultation with your stylist at least 3-6 months before your wedding. This allows you to discuss your vision, whether it’s a romantic updo, soft waves, or something completely unique. Your stylist can assess the health of your hair and recommend treatments, trims, or color adjustments to ensure it’s in top condition.
2. Stick to a Healthy Hair Routine
In the months leading up to your wedding, maintaining a consistent and healthy hair routine is crucial. Here’s what to focus on:
• Shampoo and Conditioner: Use a sulfate-free shampoo and a nourishing conditioner to keep your hair hydrated and healthy.
• Deep Conditioning: Incorporate a deep conditioning treatment into your routine once a week to repair any damage and add moisture.
• Limit Heat Styling: Reduce the use of hot tools like curling irons and straighteners. When you do use them, always apply a heat protectant.
• Regular Trims: Schedule trims every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends and keep your hair looking fresh.
3. Consider Your Color
If you’re thinking about changing your hair color, do so at least 4-6 weeks before your wedding day. This timeline gives your color time to settle and allows for any adjustments if needed. For brides maintaining their current color, a gloss treatment 1-2 weeks before the wedding can enhance shine and vibrancy.
4. Plan for a Trial Run
A hair trial is essential to ensure your chosen style works with your hair type and complements your overall bridal look. Schedule your trial at least one month before the wedding. This gives you time to make any necessary adjustments if needed!
During Your Trial:
• Wear a white top to simulate your wedding dress.
• Bring your veil, hair accessories, and earrings to see how they’ll look with the style.
• Take photos from different angles to review later.
5. Wash Your Hair the Right Way Before the Big Day
The timing of your last hair wash before the wedding is crucial. Most stylists recommend washing your hair the day before the wedding rather than on the day itself. Slightly “lived-in” hair tends to hold styles better and is easier to work with.
Washing Tips:
• Use a clarifying shampoo to remove any product buildup.
• Avoid heavy conditioners or leave-in treatments that can weigh your hair down.
• Make sure your hair is completely dry before bed to prevent frizz.
6. Prep for the Wedding Morning
On the morning of your wedding, your stylist will need a clean and dry canvas to work their magic. Avoid using any styling products after your last wash, and resist the urge to flat iron or curl your hair. Your stylist will handle all the necessary steps to create your perfect look.
Prepping your hair for your wedding day requires planning and care, but the effort will be well worth it!

How to Prep for your Wedding Day Trial Run
You’ve taken care of all the tedious tasks that go into planning a wedding, but now comes the fun part! It’s time to pamper yourself! The trial run is extremely important for both you and your artist(s), so it’s vital to prepare in advance! We’ve put together a ‘Trial Run Sesh Prep’ guide to help you prepare for your trial run! You’ll definitely want to save this!
A good rule of thumb is to schedule your trial run 1-2 months in advance. This gives you plenty of time to find a dress, veil and all the accessories that you will wear on your wedding day! A great way to save money and time is to schedule your trial run on the same day as your bridals!
All artists have their own preference, but for the most part they will want you to arrive with clean dry hair and a clean face with minimal to no products. A professional artist will know how to prep your hair and skin beforehand to give you the best results for your desired look!
We encourage you to bring anything you will be wearing on your wedding day! This includes veil, jewelry, hair accessories, hair extensions etc. (Note: If you plan to bring hair extensions, please notify your stylist beforehand to ensure that extra time is blocked off).
Wear something that is easy to get in and out of without messing up your hair/makeup. We recommend a button up shirt or a loose fitted top. If you want to go the extra mile, wear something white to get yourself in the bridal spirit! Chances are you’ll want to try on your wedding dress in full glam, so plan your clothes accordingly for ease!
Show us all the inspo! We recommend sending your beauty inspo pictures beforehand or having them ready to go at the time of your trial! Feel free to show us as many photos as you’d like, so we can get a feel of the look you’re wanting. We always advise our brides to start a Pinterest board or check out our social media page for more inspo HERE!
We hope these tips will help you out as you prepare for your big day! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@sheisartbeauty.com

Five Vegan Beauty Favorites
Awhile back, we had the honor of being a part of a green, eco-friendly, styled shoot! Everything from the dress to the makeup products were 100% vegan and eco-friendly! I had no idea how many brides were on the hunt for an artist that provided 100% vegan products! Leading up to the shoot, I tried out SO many vegan products, and today I’m sharing my top five!
Vegan or not, THIS foundation has been a fav since I tried it out awhile back! If skincare and foundation had a baby, I’m pretty sure this would be the outcome! I use this all the time, especially during the hot seasons!
Another all year round favorite! THIS sunscreen applies beautifully under any makeup application! Sometimes I wear this by itself, and the glow it creates is just insanely gorgeous!
THIS product is fairly new, but WOAH is it a game changer! I recently purchased this brow product to achieve the ever so trendy ‘fluff brows’ and boy does it deliver! After the first time use, I purchased another to add to my bridal kit!
THIS product creates the most gorgeous natural colored tint to the cheeks. I love a good cream blush, and this one is at the top of my list! Every time I use this on a bride, they ask what it is. It’s THAT good.
If you’re on the hunt for some BOMB affordable brushes, THIS 12-piece brush set is at the top of out list! We use these brushes on our own brides, and the quality is incredible! No shedding and no streaking…praise!!!

All Things Hair Extensions
This topic is easily at the top of our FAQ list! Brides often ask if they need extensions to create their dream look, where to purchase them or how to get them matched properly. We’re brining you ALL THE DEETS on todays post!
Do I need them?
Most brides spends months (sometimes years) growing out their hair leading up to the wedding day, but that’s a task that’s easier said than done! Thank goodness for the quick fix of hair extensions! When choosing on whether or not you want hair extensions, think about your vision for your wedding day hair. If you’re wanting a beautiful wispy textured updo and your hair is on the thinner side, extensions will only enhance your look! Same goes for half up half down and full down hairstyles. As an artist, its always nice to have extra hair to play with and add on as needed. Of course, we do have tricks up our sleeve to make thin hair look voluminous, but the added hair is nice! If you’re someone who has lots of volume and wanting more length, you may want to consider extensions for a half up/half down or fully down hairstyle. If you plan on doing an updo, no need for the extensions! Short answer…I will never say no to some extra hair as an artist! Which brings me to my next topic…
Which Brand do I get?
This question is a loaded one and many artists will probably have different preferences. If you’re a bride on a budget or short on time, Sally’s Beauty Supply has great clip-in options! I do find their extensions a bit limited when it comes to color variety, but most people find what they’re looking for! NOTE: Pleaseeeee do not get synthetic extensions. Synthetic hair is definitely on the cheaper side but unable to be styled with heat. I have had many brides in the past bring synthetic extensions to their trial and unfortunately were unable to be curled without the hair sticking to the hot tools. Not fun. If you’re looking for great quality but not necessarily budget friendly, Bellami hair is my #1 recommendation! Their hair extensions are 100% real and the color variety is incredible! This option is great if you plan to wear them beyond your wedding day and want a good quality product that will last! Of course there is always the option to visit your stylists and get extensions put in. I’ve personally used hand-tied in the past, and they were amazing! If taken care of properly, you can get up to two years use out of them! Your stylists will be able to recommend the length, color and technique that’s best for your hair.
So many options…
The options out there can sometimes be overwhelming. Once you’ve chosen the brand, you’re probably wondering which type might be best for your hairstyle. If you’re chosen to purchase them on your own and not get them put in by your stylist, I’ve created a cheat sheet below to help you out!
Color Matching
If time permits, we recommend getting your extensions color matched before your trial run. The best way to do this is to schedule a visit with your stylist! If your hair is uncolored and easy to match, chances are you’ll be able to find exactly what you need in store or online and skip this step!
We hope these tips will help you out as you prepare for your big day! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@sheisartbeauty.com

Five Ways to Prep your Skin for Wedding Day
Between the stress, Texas heat and those pesky masks, it’s no surprise that a chance of a breakout is at an all time high when going through the wedding planning process. We’re here to give you five tips on how you can prep your skin for the big day and avoid any unwanted breakouts!
Meet with an Esthetician
The skin experts will know exactly what products you should be using leading up to your wedding day. Getting facials on a regular basis, is a great way to prep your skin and pamper yourself! An esthetician will be able to target problem areas and give your skin that perfect glow by the time your wedding day rolls around!
2. Hydrate
Yeah yeah, we’ve heard this a billion times. We all know it’s good for us…then let’s do it!
3. Double Cleanse
This is a personal trick that has CHANGED MY SKIN! The term double cleanse just basically means to clean/wash your face twice. Every evening, I use a balm cleanser to get the makeup off my face, then I use an oil cleanser to do the same thing. You’d be surprised at how much makeup comes off that second time around! This technique ensures that EVERY ounce of dirt, oil, debris and makeup is off your skin.
4. Consistent Routine
Just like anything in life, consistency is key. A proper skincare routine, will pay off once wedding day rolls around. Get in the habit of cleaning your face EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Even if you skip a few steps every once in awhile, a little TLC is better than nothing. You can do this!
5. Manage Stress
Planning a wedding should be fun and exciting, but we get that stress is just another part of it. Managing your stress is easier said than done, but this is exactly what your bridal party is for! Delegate tasks that are causing you stress or consider hiring a wedding planner if the budget allows for it!
We hope this list will help you out as you prepare for your big day! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@sheisartbeauty.com

How to Choose Your Wedding Day Hairstyle
Choosing a hairstyle can be overwhelming! Up or down? Textured or classic? Smooth or tousled? With all the inspo out there, it’s almost impossible to decide! We’ve put together a few tips and tricks to help you narrow down your choices!
Consider the theme of your wedding
More than likely you’ve dreamt up some sort of vision for your wedding day at this point. Choosing a theme can help us out here! Having a boho wedding? Consider a nice textured braid to incorporate with your look! Do you picture a classic black tie affair? Possibly a smooth classic bun is the way to go! Whether or not you have your full look in mind, this can give us some guidance towards the right hairstyle for you!
Pick out your dress
Picking out your dress prior to choosing a hairstyle can help navigate this decision. If your dress has gorgeous beading on the back, chances are you want to show it off on wedding day! Your hairstyle should compliment your dress and show off your best features! Love the gorgeous embroidered neckline on your dress? Show it off, girl!
Consult with your hairstylist
Your hairstylist is the expert when it comes to choosing your wedding day look and can give guidance during this time. Share your vision and have them help you bring it to life!
Take weather into consideration
By now you probably know how your hair reacts to certain climates, and that could play a huge role in narrowing down your hairstyle. Texas weather is no joke, and you should stay mindful of how it may affect your day of look. If you know that your hair does not hold a curl well, it may not be the best option for you to do an all down look. Do you struggle with frizzy hair? You may want to talk to your stylists about a blowout before wedding day! Be prepared to make last minute changes, in the event that it rains or strong winds occur on the day of!
We hope these tips will help you feel a bit more confident when it comes to choosing your wedding day hairstyle! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@sheisartbeauty.com

Bridal Beauty Checklist
When it comes to planning out your big day, you’ve got A LOT on your plate! We’re here to help by providing the perfect Bridal Beauty Checklist! When it comes to prepping for the big day, there are no rules! You can do as little or as much as you’d like. Regardless of the what you decide, we’ve provided the timeline for each step along the way!
9-12 Months Before
Start your wedding Day Pinterest board! Although you don’t have to have your look figured out just yet, its fun to start the process! Gather as much inspo as possible so that your artist can help you narrow down your perfect look!
Set a beauty budget!
Research hair and makeup artists. Its important to look at different artist’s portfolios and read their reviews while searching for your wedding day artist(s). More than likely, this person/team will be the first vendor to show up on your wedding day, so it’s important that you choose someone who’s professional, timely and confident in their craft.
6-8 Months Before
Book your beauty vendor! Most teams have limited availability throughout the year, so get your beauty vendor booked ASAP!
Consult with a skin expert to establish a good skincare regimen leading up to your wedding day. Flawless makeup applications begin with good skin! Pamper yourself with monthly facials and a consistent at home skincare routine. You won’t regret it!
3 Months Before
Start testing out different self-tanners and spray tans, if you're planning to rock a faux glow as you walk down the aisle!
Start an at home teeth whitening routine.
Order hair extensions/hair accessories (if applicable). If you plan on using hair extensions and/or hair accessories on your wedding day, its a good idea to bring them to your trail run to make sure its exactly what you want.
Schedule your hair and makeup trials.
1-2 Month Before
Get your beauty timeline prepared with the help of your planner and beauty stylist.
Drink LOTS of water. Hydrate hydrate hydrate! It’s countdown time, and there is nothing that will give you the perfect glow more than hydrated skin.
Start regularly applying self tanner to build a good base color.
Hair and make trial time! It’s time to see your look come to life!
2 Weeks Before
Schedule your mani-pedis, final facials, waxing and spa treatments.
Bridal party beauty inspo! Your bridal party should prepare their inspo photos before they sit in the artists chair. This saves lots of time! If you plan on having your bridal party wear the same look, let your beauty vendor know ahead of time to make things easier.
Last color and cut! Get those final partial highlights and face framing pieces! During your trial run, ask your beauty vendor for recommendations on how you can achieve your dream wedding hair look.
The Week Before
Bye bye unwanted hair! Now is the time to get your waxed, threaded and say goodbye to any unwanted hair. Give your skin time to heal before the big day, in the event of skin irritations.
Glowing skin! Its time for the final facial to achieve maximum glow potential! Now is NOT the time for blackhead removals…don’t do it.
2-3 Days Before
Wash your hair one final time before wedding day! Chances are, your stylist will have a preference when it comes to clean or “dirty” hair. We recommend pampering yourself with a blowout 2 days before your wedding day to get rid of any frizz and tame those baby hairs.
Mani-Pedi time! Time to relax…you deserve it!
Get your final spray tan.
1 Day Before
Get a good nights sleep! Take a relaxing bubble bath, use your favorite body lotion, have some warm team and TRY your best to get a good nights sleep.
Wedding Day
GET MARRIED!
We hope this beauty checklist will provide guidance as you prep for your wedding day! As always, if you have any questions or need any recommendations feel free to email us at info@sheisartbeauty.com

Airbrush vs Traditional
We’re answering one of your MOST ASKED questions! We want you to look and feel your absolute best on your wedding day, so we’ve broken down the pros and cons when it comes to airbrush and traditional foundation! Let’s get started!
Pros - Airbrush Foundation:
ZERO chance of seeing streaks and smears. Rain or shine, your foundation is sure to look perfect in person and photos.
Easy to CUSTOM mix the perfect foundation shade and adjust undertones to get the perfect match.
EXTREMELY lightweight and buildable. Whether the bride wants sheer coverage, full coverage, or somewhere in between, airbrush foundation can achieve any look desired without your face feeling heavy with makeup.
12-15 hour wear, water-resistant (will not streak/run with tears or sweat), and very gentle on all skin types. If you’re a happy crier or expect to dance your wedding night away, airbrush foundation might be the right choice for you!
Transfer resistant! This is KEY if you’re someone who touches their face often.
Great option if you want to cover up any acne, tan lines, discoloration or tattoos! No need to worry about unwanted makeup ruining your dress!
Cons - Airbrush Foundation:
Due to the extra equipment and skill level it takes to apply airbrush, we do charge an additional $30 to apply airbrush foundation.
It can be difficult to get in the crevices of mature or aged skin. If you fall under this skin type, we suggest a thin coat of traditional foundation and then a blow over of airbrush to lock in your wedding day look.
Airbrush can be drying on the skin. It’s important that your artist knows this in advance to be able to prep your skin properly for the perfect airbrush application.
Airbrush requires more knowledge and skill with products and equipment to execute the perfect look. Make sure your artist is well-versed on the art of airbrush! At She is Art Beauty, our airbrush artists are equipped and trained to create your flawless airbrushed look!
Pros - Traditional Foundation:
There are a wide variety of foundations on the market to choose from. Our artists carry many high end foundation choices in our kit to best suit your skin type and desired look. If there’s a particular one you like more than others, we are more than happy to work with your foundation of choice.
When it comes to traditional foundation, it is much easier to find artists and companies to provide this service.
Traditional foundation can be applied with a brush or beauty blender, in comparison to the applicator used for airbrush foundation.
Traditional foundation is less expensive than airbrush foundation applications.
Cons - Traditional Foundation:
Traditional foundation usually starts to wear off within 6-7 hours, whereas airbrush can hold a look up to 12+ hours. With the Texas heat, masks, sweat and tears, we recommend blowing over the face with a light layer of airbrush foundation, just to reinforce your wedding day look!
Blending traditional foundation can be a bit trickier when it comes to the neckline, ears and jaw line. Make sure your artist is looking at your makeup from every angle to ensure a cohesive look!
Some foundations oxidize throughout the day (meaning they change tone or get slightly darker). At She is Art Beauty, we provide high end foundation products to ensure that your shade is the perfect match throughout your entire wedding day!
It is important to stay informed when choosing your wedding day look! We strive to share the knowledge we’ve learned from years of training, countless weddings and personal experiences! Whichever foundation style you choose, my team and I are so excited to help bring your dream wedding look to life!
